A Fourth of July Favorite: My Classic Fruit Pizza Recipe

A Fourth of July Favorite: My Classic Fruit Pizza Recipe

Some recipes aren’t just delicious—they’re part of your story. This Fruit Pizza is one of those for me.

I’ve been making this recipe for over twenty years, and it never fails to bring smiles wherever it goes. It’s sweet, simple, and refreshingly light—perfect for summer potlucks, family cookouts, or patriotic parties. But for me, it’s also a little piece of home.

A Sweet Slice of Family Tradition

Growing up, every Fourth of July was a big deal. My extended family—40 cousins and 14 aunts and uncles—would gather for a massive camp-out at my grandparents’ farm. We celebrated my grandpa’s birthday on July 5, but the entire week felt like one long party full of laughter, fireworks, tents, bonfires, and endless memories.

This fruit pizza became one of my signature contributions to the celebration. It was cool and refreshing after a day in the sun, and it looked festive with its colorful topping of fresh fruit. Now, every time I make it, I’m taken right back to those magical childhood summers.

The Recipe: Fruit Pizza

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup cold butter

For the topping:

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese
  • ⅓ cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Plus:

  • Fresh fruit of your choice for garnish (strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, grapes, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Make the crust: Combine flour, powdered sugar, and cold butter until dough forms. Press into a pizza pan.
  3. Bake for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden. Let it cool completely.
  4. Make the topping: Beat cream cheese, white sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Assemble: Spread the cream cheese mixture over the cooled crust. Top with sliced fresh fruit.
  6. Chill before serving for best results.

Potluck Tip: Make Them Mini!

If you’re heading to a potluck or want an easier grab-and-go option, use the same recipe to create individual cookie-sized fruit pizzas. Just portion the dough into small rounds and bake like cookies—then top each one with a dollop of cream cheese filling and fruit. Perfect for parties, picnics, or kid-friendly gatherings!

This recipe isn’t fancy. It’s not trendy. But it’s nostalgic, comforting, and filled with heart—and sometimes that’s exactly what we need.

If you make it, I’d love to know—does it become a part of your family’s summer story, too?
